Not Everything Deserves an Immediate Reaction
Good morning, Bold Coffee Talk community.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that being a responsible woman meant responding to everything immediately. The text comes in..we answer. Someone is upset..we try to fix it. A problem appears..we start figuring out a solution before we’ve even had time to decide whether the problem belongs to us..and after years of living that way, urgency can start feeling normal.
But I’m learning something: not everything deserves an immediate reaction from me. There is power in giving yourself a minute. A minute before you say yes. A minute before you defend yourself. A minute before you take responsibility for someone else’s feelings. A minute before you turn somebody else’s emergency into your emergency. That doesn’t mean we’ve become uncaring. It means we’ve become more intentional about where our energy goes.
Especially as women, we can become so accustomed to being the dependable one that we forget we’re allowed to have limits. We’re allowed to say, “Let me think about that.” We’re allowed to sleep on a decision. We’re allowed to read a message and respond later. We’re even allowed to realize that some things don’t require a response at all. That space between what happens and how we respond is where a lot of our peace lives.
I don’t want to spend this chapter of my life constantly reacting. I want to choose. Choose what deserves my attention. Choose what deserves a conversation. Choose what deserves another chance..and yes..choose what deserves absolutely none of my energy. Maybe maturity isn’t having the perfect response. Maybe sometimes it’s realizing you don’t need one.
What are you treating as urgent right now that might actually be okay waiting until you’ve had time to breathe, think, and decide?
Give yourself permission today to respond from clarity instead of pressure.
Sending Love & Light
