When Did We Stop Doing Things Just Because They Make Us Happy?

Good morning, my beautiful Bold Coffee Talk family!

I hope you’re starting this Monday with a little sunshine in your heart. I’ve been thinking about something lately. When we were younger, happiness sometimes came from the simplest things. Hearing our favorite song on the radio. Getting dressed up for absolutely no reason. Dancing around the house while cleaning. Laughing so hard with a girlfriend that we couldn’t finish telling the story. We didn’t always need a special occasion to enjoy ourselves.

Somewhere between careers, children, relationships, bills, responsibilities, and everything else adulthood brings, many of us stopped doing those little things. Not intentionally. Life just got busy..and slowly, enjoyment became something we scheduled around everything else. We started saying things like: I’ll do that when I have more time. Maybe next weekend. Once everything settles down. But here’s what I’ve noticed.

Everything rarely settles down. There’s always another responsibility waiting. Another bill. Another appointment. Another reason to put ourselves last..and sometimes I wonder how many ordinary, beautiful moments we’ve missed because we were waiting for the perfect time to enjoy them. I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to turn on an old-school song and dance around my kitchen.

I want to put on a pretty outfit even when I have nowhere important to go. I want to laugh at something completely ridiculous without feeling like I should be doing something productive. I want to enjoy an ordinary Tuesday just as much as a special Saturday. Because life isn’t only happening during vacations, birthdays, celebrations, and major milestones. Life is happening on the days when absolutely nothing extraordinary is planned..and those days deserve our attention too.

I’m learning that happiness doesn’t always require a major life change. Sometimes it requires us to stop postponing the little things that make us feel alive.

A Little Journal Reflection

What’s something you used to do purely because it made you happy, but somewhere along the way you stopped doing it?

Was it dancing? Singing? Dressing up? Taking spontaneous drives? Spending time with girlfriends?

And here’s an even better question: What’s stopping you from doing it again?

This week, I hope you give yourself permission to enjoy something without needing a reason, an invitation, or a special occasion.

Sometimes the smallest moments become the memories we treasure most. Wishing you a beautiful Monday filled with laughter, gratitude, and a little unexpected joy.

With love always,
